Arctic city Tromso ready to host the World Cup Finals

Four races in five days will decide the winners of the Crystal Globes for the 2022/23 World Cup season.

Tromso, 10 April 2023 – The longest WÜRTH MODYF ISMF World Cup history season has reached its final week. Tromso, the Arctic City in northern Norway, will host the World Cup after nine years. The Paris of the North will see four races in five days. It’s going to be a unique World Cup event for different reasons. One of them is that all the races will be in the afternoon.

Vertical and Mixed Relay in Fjellheisen

The racing will kick off Mixed Relay on Tuesday afternoon. The race track will be situated just under the top of the Fløya mountain. The qualification will be at 17:05 (CEST), followed by the Final A at 18:00 CEST. The Mixed Relay will be the only race that will not be live-streamed.

Wednesday will bring the first out of three points-awarded races. The Vertical race will go from the Tromsdalen, a city district of Tromso, to the top of Floya mountain. The first part is not typical for a Vertical race, with some kick turns and off-piste terrain. The middle part is flat, followed by a steep section to the finish line.

Scenic Individual race

There will be no race on Thursday. Competitors will go to see the track of Friday’s Individual race. The penultimate race promises a beautiful course, good weather and perfect views. The icing on the cake will be the TV production by NRK. Snow conditions are good, and the track will lead from the sea to the top of the hills and back.

The last competition of the season will be the Sprint race. Like in 2013 and 2014, this Saturday, we will see a race right in the heart of Tromso. The track will be slightly shorter in elevation gain but still spectacular and unique. Also, this race will be live both on NRK and TV.ISMF-SKI.ORG.

The last questions will be answered

Before the last three races and 300 points in play, the situation is exciting, especially in the Women’s World Cup. Only 65 points separate first Giulia Murad and fourth Axelle Gachet-Mollaret. Célia Perillat-Pessey is second (29 points behind), and Harrop is third (45 points back).

On the men’s side, Thibault Anselmet is in the 136-point lead. He finished second overall the last two times and is close to fulfilling the big goal this time. Second overall sits Belgium athlete Maximilien Drion du Chapois. Rémi Bonnet and Robert Antonioli have 600 points in the last week of racing.
