November meeting of the ISMF Council

Lausanne, 19 December 2023 – The International Ski Mountaineering Federation Council met virtually on November 16, with 11 members present.

The Council received information regarding the WADA audit and all the high priority issues identified at the report, with some of them already corrected but some other ones pending that we need to address and resolve as soon as possible.

ISMF President, Regula Meier, explained the recent meetings with the International Olympic Committee (IOC) to discuss projects and the cooperation between both organizations.

The Council approved the new date and venue for the Asian Championships, that now will take place in the Song Hua Lake ski resort, in China, from March 2 to March 6, 2024.

Before the kick-off of the season, it was approved the Rules 2023/24, including the Event Registration Rules for Long Distance Team and some pending topics in the Rules and Guidelines. The Council also gave the green light to establish a Jury of Appeal.

The Council agreed to suspend provisionally the Ski Mountaineering Association of India as full member of ISMF, and the National Olympic Committee of India will be temporarily the national governing body for our sport in India until the next Plenary Assembly, to be hosted in October 2024.

The Council members also approved the creation of the Audit Committee, and decided to open a public offer including all member Federations to find candidates for being part of this Committee.

This meeting also provided information on the status of the International Disciplinary Commission’s current cases.

The Council approved the proposal to launch the Athlete Sustainability Ambassador Program to promote sustainability best practices among all our stakeholders and voted in favor of the Sustainability Commission Regulation. Another step towards making our sport cleaner and less harmful to the planet was the adoption of the proposal to introduce the carbon emissions measurement tool, which is free of charge for the ISMF.
