Reflecting on the 2023/2024 season

Dear Friends,

As the 2023/2024 season draws to a close, I want to take a moment to express my gratitude to everyone who contributed to its success. On behalf of the International Ski Mountaineering Federation (ISMF), thank you.

Firstly, a big thank you to the athletes, coaches, referees, officials, and National Members for their total support and dedication. The Local Organizing Committees (LOCs) deserve recognition for their hard work in bringing the races to life; the volunteers played a vital role in making each event a success. We are grateful for the support of our sponsors and to the fans and spectators who cheered on the races,
whether in person or from afar.

This season saw significant growth, with more events than ever before and an increase in participating countries and athletes. The emergence of a new generation of skimo stars, along with the inclusion of our sport in the programme of great events like the Asian Games 2025 or the FISU added excitement to the sport.

Looking ahead to Milano Cortina 2026, we are filled with anticipation. While we await our sport’s debut on the Olympic programme, we remain committed to enhancing skimo, fostering community growth, increase visibility in the media, promoting sustainability, and providing opportunities for mountain regions worldwide.

The ISMF World Cup season was filled with exhilarating races. With seven stops along the circuit, – Val Thorens (France), Comapedrosa (Andorra), Boi Taull (Spain), Villars-sur-Ollon (Switzerland), Val Martello (Italy), Schladming (Austria), and the grand crescendo of the World Cup Finals in Cortina d’Ampezzo (Italy)-, we witnessed incredible performances that left us all in awe.

Congratulations to all the athletes who showcased their talent and determination throughout the season, including the rising stars of our sport, that for the second year in a row, they’ve had their own circuit of races: the ISMF Youth World Cup.

As we reflect on the past season, let's look forward to the future with optimism. Together, we’ll continue to push the boundaries of ski mountaineering and uphold the values that define our community.

Thank you all for your contributions, and here's to many more unforgettable seasons ahead.

Warm regards,
Regula Meier
