SENIOR RACE NEW CUTS

Senior Women Final highlights

The six finalists delivered an incredible battle after making it through the qualifying rounds.

France’s Emily Harrop held a slight lead at the top of the first ski ascent. Racing on home soil, both Marianne Fatton and Caroline Ulrich managed to overtake Emily on the foot part.

In the last uphill, Marianne Fatton gained again a few decisive meters over Emily. She then executed a perfect descent, securing an impressive victory!

Marianne Fatton’s reaction: “It’s unbelievable for me. I’m over happy. I started very fast, and I think in the foot part I was a bit stronger, and that made the difference.”

Behind her, the race took an unexpected turn. Ana Alonso, who initially crossed the finish line in third place, and Caroline Ulrich, who finished fourth, both received penalties. As a result, Germany’s Tatjana Paller was awarded the bronze medal. Emily Harrop, now vice-world champion, and Swiss winner Marianne Fatton have both secured quota spots for France and Switzerland for Milano-Cortina 2026.

Senior Men Final highlights

Oriol Cardona, the 2023 World Champion and 2024 European Champion, was defending his title today. Frenchman Thibault Anselmet, who had made it clear he was coming to Morgins with big ambitions for the Sprint, was his strongest challenger.

From the first uphill, the two men took the lead, quickly creating a gap with the rest of the finalists. Oriol had a slight advantage, but Thibault was right on his heels.

At the second transition, Thibault made a small mistake while clipping into his skis. That was enough to let Oriol fly to victory.

Behind them, young Swiss Jon Kistler put in a brilliant race and secured third. A huge achievement, as he’s not only taking bronze but also becoming the U23 World Champion at home!

Oriol Cardona’s reaction: “It wasn’t easy. I trained a lot for this race. It was my main goal this season, and I managed to achieve it!”

Showing great sportsmanship, Thibault Anselmet congratulated Oriol at the finish line, saying: “I’m never going to be able to beat you!”

These results mean Spain and France have each secured an additional quota spot for the Milano-Cortina 2026 Olympic Games.
