Swedish Tove Alexandersson takes gold in the Individual, while Switzerland’s Rémi Bonnet confirms his dominance!

Friday, March 7, 2025 – Morgins (Switzerland)

Today in Morgins, we witnessed the premier event of our sport: the Individual race.
The longest format in Ski Mountaineering, this race challenges athletes on irregular terrain, featuring numerous elevation changes and some thrilling mogul descents.

This was the fourth event of the World Championships in Morgins, following the Mixed Relay (Monday), the Vertical (Tuesday), and the Sprint (Thursday).

Check out the results across all categories (Senior, U23, U20, and U18), along with links to race photos, news highlights, and race summaries.

Senior Women race highlights

A total of 47 women lined up at the start. All eyes were on Axelle Gachet-Mollaret (FRA), the reigning World Champion since 2023 and winner of Tuesday’s Vertical race. True to expectations, she took an early lead. However, just like in the Vertical race, she found herself closely followed by a determined Tove Alexandersson (SWE).As the race unfolded, a significant gap separated the two frontrunners from the rest of the field. The decisive moment came in the final lap, when Alexandersson overtook Gachet-Mollaret and managed to widen the gap, crossing the finish line in first place.Behind them, Emily Harrop (FRA) secured third place, earning her third medal of these World Championships.

At the finish, Alexandersson shared her excitement:
“This is a very big day for me, and I’m super happy with my performance. I’m very satisfied with my results in these World Championships across all races. To be able to beat Axelle today is amazing, she’s a superstar, so I’m very happy to win against her.”

87 men started the race. The big favorite of the day was Rémi Bonnet (SUI), and he didn’t disappoint. From the very first climb, he took the lead and was able to maintain that position. The same can be said for his two pursuers, Italy’s Davide Magnini and France’s Xavier Gachet. They raced while keeping a small gap between each other, not allowing the rest of the pack to catch up.At their back, it was very different. Matteo Eydallin (ITA), William Bon Mardion (FRA) and Maximilien Drion (BEL) were shifting positions all the way to the finish line.Notably, young Swiss athlete Thomas Bussard (SUI) claimed the U23 World Champion title, just after securing a silver medal in the Sprint.

Rémi’s reaction at the finish:
“I loved the course, I suffered from the heat, and the finish was really tough. We still have a chance for a medal tomorrow in the Team race event Aurélien, and we will be motivated to play for the win.”
