ISMF Leadership Engages with Olympic Stakeholders in Lausanne

Lausanne, Switzerland – 13 June 2025

ISMF President Regula Meier and General Secretary Jordi Canals recently represented the ISMF at the Winter Olympic Federations (WOF) General Assembly (GA) in Lausanne, held on 9-10 June. The WOF brings together the governing bodies of all Olympic Winter sports to address shared priorities and strengthen alignment within the Olympic Movement. Alongside the GA, a series of working meetings took place with the IOC and representatives from upcoming Olympic host cities, including Milano Cortina 2026, French Alps 2030, and Salt Lake City – Utah 2034.

These engagements offered an opportunity to present the unique value that ski mountaineering brings to the Olympic programme: a compact and sustainable event model, deep mountain sport heritage, growing global participation, full gender equity, and strong appeal to youth and emerging markets—as the sport prepares for its Olympic debut at Milano Cortina and looks ahead to secure its long-term place in the Olympic programme.

“It was important for us to be present in Lausanne and continue building trust with Olympic stakeholders,” said Meier. “These meetings are about contributing in a constructive way, while also listening and learning. As we approach our Olympic debut, we remain focused on how ski mountaineering can add value—not just in 2026, but for the future of the Winter Games.”

The meetings reflect ISMF’s ongoing commitment to collaboration with Olympic stakeholders, guided by respect, shared purpose, and a focus on long-term development.
