Regula Meier re-elected President of the ISMF
The ISMF Plenary Assembly 2023 took place successfully in Paris, France – Armenia, Lithuania, Ukraine, Kazakhstan and Albania were welcomed as new full members
Paris, 15 October 2023 – The International Ski Mountaineering Federation (ISMF) is pleased to announce that Regula Meier (SUI) has been re-elected President during the Plenary Assembly that took place on October 14, 2023, in Paris, France. Jordi Canals (ESP) was also voted to continue as Secretary General; Pierre-François Dupont (FRA) was re-elected Vice President of Sport & Events, while Ramone Cooper (AUS) was voted Vice-President of Marketing & Communications and Monika Strojny (POL) was re-elected Council member as a Member Association Representative.
“Thank you very much for the trust, I can promise that I will continue to work for ISMF to elevate the profile of the International Federation, developing our sport on a sustainable and productive way”, said Meier after the elections. “I strongly believe that we need to continue investing on the new generations, the Youth is the future!
In the last year, we have intensified the collaboration with the main stakeholders of the winter sports community and we are happy to have a fruitful and comprehensive collaboration with the International Olympic Committee, and the Organizing Committee of Milano Cortina. We are making huge steps towards the debut of our sport on the Olympic programme, which will be very important for the development of our sport as a whole. I can promise that we will continue growing our sport, not only the Olympic disciplines. We have professionalized our structure, we have worked on internal and external audits, data privacy, the compliance office, health and safety, sustainability, media and marketing. We have welcomed new members and increased the number of events. The future is ours and working all together we will achieve greater goals”, she expressed.
The Plenary Assembly also approved that ISMF will follow and apply the IOC recommendations concerning sanctions or similar restrictions on ISMF National members (or similar bodies) and athletes.
At the Plenary Assembly, the ISMF expressed their gratitude to former Vice-President Marketing & Communication, Marco Mosso, for his outstanding contribution to the sport and the Federation during many years.
Armenia, Lithuania, Ukraine, Kazakhstan and Albania were approved as new full members of the ISMF, elevating the total number of members to 47, from four Continents.
The members present in Paris had the opportunity to review and approve the financial statements from the previous year, and approve the budget for 2024. It was also voted that the 2024 Plenary Assembly will take place in Baku (Azerbaijan), while the 2025 edition will be hosted in Cancun (Mexico).
On Friday, more than 20 National Federations attended a series of workshops to analyse the new media and marketing plans for the season, the financial situation, the rules and Olympics preparations and the new members of the staff were introduced: Jordi Millastre, Marketing &Communication Manager, and Zuzana Rychlikova, Events Organization Manager.
After three days of successful and fruitful meetings, the ISMF wants to thank the host member nation, the Federation Française de la Montagne et l’Escalade (French Federation of mountain and climbing sports) for hosting the Council meeting, the National Federation Workshops and the Assembly this year.

Founded in 2007, the International Ski Mountaineering Federation ISMF is the global governing body for ski mountaineering competitions. Since 2016, the organization is officially recognized by the International Olympic Committee IOC. Its main goals are the promotion, regulation and development of the ski mountaineering sport worldwide. Based in Lausanne, Switzerland, the ISMF’s membership consists of 47 national mountaineering or ski sports federations in Europe, Asia, Oceania and the Americas. The ISMF organizes ski mountaineering World Cups events and World Championships.
