Spain took the win in the last Mixed Relay of the season

Oriol Cardona Coll and Ana Alonso Rodriguez won the World Cup Finals opening race in Tromso.

Tromso, 11 April 2023 – The last week of the WÜRTH MODYF ISMF World Cup started with a discipline that had its premiere in the circuit this year. Mixed Relay was held in Fjellheisen, right under the Floya mountains.

All the athletes liked the track. The uphills and downhills were fast, technical and on frozen snow. The weather was brilliant, and views from the track were spectacular.

How it went

After the first lap of men and women, Spain 1 and France were in the lead. Ana Alonso Rodriguez then made a lead over Léna Bonnel, so Oriol Cardona Coll had “just” to finish the job. Spanish duo won the second Mixed Relay of the season proving that they are one of the best pairs for this new discipline.

“We are super happy. After the World Championships, finishing the World Cup season of the Mixed Relay with a victory is even better than we could have expected. The course was really impressive, and the views just top,” said Ana Alonso Rodriguez.

Oriol Cardona Coll was happy right after the finish line. He achieved another World Cup with a chance to close the season with another win on the Sprint race on Saturday: “We have managed the race and the season very well. We arrived here in the last race in good form, that’s very important for us. This place is just amazing. Now, I’m looking forward to the rest of the races.”

Xavier Gachet and Léna Bonnel crossed the finish line safely in second place. The third team was an Italian couple who is also a real-life couple – Alba De Silvestro and Michele Boscacci. Fourth place went to the Swiss duo Marianna Fatton and Iwan Arnold, while Slovak team Marianna Jagerčíková and Jakub Šiarnik closed the Top 5 of the day.

The action continues tomorrow with the Vertical race. It will be a special one as it will be a time trial. The athletes will start in 20-second intervals from 16:30.
